A Day with the Elderly

A day of care, companionship and heartfelt conversations, sharing moments of warmth with elderly women and listening to the stories of their lives.

A Day with the Elderly

On July 23, 2013, Nanma Charitable Foundation visited Carmel Old Age Home for Women at Nedumangadu, Trivandrum, Kerala, where we distributed free food to around 25 elderly women and spent a meaningful day in their company.

The women, aged between 45 and 70 years, had been abandoned by their children for various reasons. Without financial support from their families, they depended on the old age home for their medical care, daily necessities, and other essential needs. During our visit, we spent time with these women, listening to their personal stories and learning about the journeys they had experienced throughout their lives. Their experiences offered us a glimpse into the challenges of ageing without the support of loved ones and reminded us of the importance of compassion, respect, and companionship.

Beyond the simple act of sharing food, the visit gave us an opportunity to offer our time, attention, and care to those who deserved to feel valued and remembered. It was a humbling experience that reinforced the belief that sometimes, a listening ear and a little kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone's day.
